Sun & rain vs Standard — which RideShell case?

Choosing between RideShell's Standard and Sun & rain protective cases for Garmin zūmo XT, XT2 and XT3? Use this guide for glare, rain shade and everyday knock protection — then configure your model in the shop.

Standard · £15

Everyday protective shell

  • Hard protective cover for corners and the body of the GPS — open front so the touchscreen stays usable.
  • Cleaner, lower-profile look when you do not need a deep hood.
  • Best when glare is mild and your priority is knock protection on and off the bike.
  • Lanyard included · mount not included.

Sun & rain · £22

Hooded glare & rain shade

  • Adds a hood that shades the Garmin zūmo screen and cuts sun glare on bright rides.
  • Helps keep rain off the display as a practical motorcycle GPS rain shade — not a sealed waterproof box.
  • Ideal for UK weather, touring and high-glare summer days.
  • Lanyard included · mount not included.

Glare, rain shade and motorcycle GPS use

Riders often search for a sun and rain vs standard Garmin zūmo case when the stock screen washes out in bright light or collects rain on wet days. RideShell's Sun & rain option is built as a hooded shade for that job. If you mainly want a protective shell without the hood, Standard keeps things simple at £15.

Mount fit — standard or Touratech-style

Keep your existing cradle. In the shop, pick standard mount fit or Touratech-style mount fit for either case type. Mount choice does not change the price and the mount is never included — only the case cut-out changes so it seats correctly.

Pin protector & securing latch

Optional extras for either case: pin protector (£5) to cover mount contact pins when the GPS is off the bike, and securing latch (£5) to help reduce accidental quick-release presses while riding. Both pack with your order.

FAQ

Sun & rain vs Standard — common questions

What is the difference between Standard and Sun & rain?
The Standard case (£15) is a protective shell with an open front for everyday knock protection. The Sun & rain case (£22) adds a hooded shade that reduces sun glare on the Garmin zūmo screen and helps keep rain off the display while you ride. Both include a lanyard; neither is a sealed waterproof housing.
When should I choose the Sun & rain case?
Choose Sun & rain if bright sun glare or wet UK / touring weather is your main frustration with the GPS screen. The hood shades the display and acts as a practical rain shade for motorcycle use.
When is the Standard case enough?
Pick Standard if you mainly want corner and body protection, a cleaner low-profile look, or you ride mostly in lower glare conditions. You still get a precise RideShell fit and a lanyard.
Does mount fit change between Standard and Sun & rain?
No. Both case types are available with standard mount fit or Touratech-style mount fit. Mount choice only changes the cut-out so the case seats on your existing cradle — the mount itself is not included and does not change the price.
Can I add a pin protector or securing latch?
Yes. Optional pin protector (£5) and securing latch (£5) work with either case type and ship in the same parcel. Configure them on the shop page.
